About the memorial

Small losses.
Undue ceremony.

The Lost Sock Memorial is an entirely imaginary institution devoted to socks that never made it back to the drawer. There are no physical grounds to visit. You are already here.

How this happened

A joke that
got a domain name.

The name began as a joke between work friends. It seemed unreasonable that a sock could give years of service and then disappear without so much as a paragraph. So a paragraph was arranged. Then a website.

This is a small, independently run project for anyone who could use a few minutes of affectionate nonsense. Read an obituary, remember a particularly good pair, or contribute a disappearance of your own.

The collection began with invented socks and stories. The grand institutional language is part of the joke. Please do not mistake it for evidence of a well-funded sock research department.

Adding to the collection

Your sock.
A few words from you.

  1. Tell us who went missing.

Give your sock a name and share a few details or a finished tribute. A photo link is welcome, including a photo of the surviving partner. It is optional. Use an alias or stay anonymous; no account or email address is required.

  2. Ask for help with the obituary, if you like.

Tick the box on the form if you would like us to invent an obituary from your details. The owner can use AI to help draft it, then edit it personally. Otherwise, we work with your own words.

  3. A real person reads it.

Submissions go to a private inbox. The owner reviews every tribute and may edit it before publication, without sending a draft back for approval. Nothing publishes automatically, and submission does not guarantee a place in the collection or a publication date.

Paying your respects

A little love.
Kept close to home.

The heart on each tribute lets you leave a small gesture. It is saved only in your browser, with no public count. Other visitors cannot see it, and it will not follow you to another device. Clearing your browser's saved data may clear it too.

Or simply read. Nobody is keeping an attendance register.

A real person.
An actual inbox.

For questions, corrections, removal requests, or a problem with the site, email [email protected].

If you are writing about a tribute, include its name or link so the owner can find it. Please leave out sensitive personal information. New tributes and happy returns have their own submission and reunion forms.

Someone missing
from your drawer?

We can at least give them a decent paragraph.
