Navy Ribbed came as a pair in 2018. Fine ribbed wool, bought in a hurry for a wedding, from the last shop open on a Friday evening. Both socks were the same. P. has always maintained that one of them was better.
The good one went to that wedding, and to another in 2021, and to an interview for a job P. got and still has. The other sock went to all the same places, on the other foot, and got none of the credit. Nobody can explain this, least of all P., who once tried by describing how the good one "sat."
Between occasions it waited in the top drawer, rolled into its partner. That was the good drawer.
In May 2025 it went into the machine with a dark wash. It was seen going in, because P. put it there personally. It was not seen coming out. The drum was checked twice, the second time with a phone flashlight and some disbelief.
The other one is now worn to occasions. P. describes it, without much conviction, as the good one.
