A lost sock obituary Captain Grip
2021 – 2026

- Fleece, blue, rubber dots on the sole
- Submitted by The downstairs residents

Captain Grip was bought in 2021 for a yoga class that met on Tuesday evenings in a church hall. It was blue fleece with rubber dots on the sole, and it was very good at not slipping on a mat. The class lasted six weeks. The socks lasted considerably longer.
It found a more suitable role at home, carrying its owner between the sofa and the refrigerator across wooden floors. Its traction was particularly valued on the return journey, when both hands were full. The downstairs residents knew its footsteps, which were soft, and its owner's, which were not.
In winter it went on the moment its owner got home and stayed on until bed. One Sunday in 2023 it was worn for thirty-one hours, a record nobody has been asked to confirm.
It has been missing since January 2026, when the sofa cushions were removed for cleaning. A remote control and enough money for a small coffee were recovered, but nobody considered this a fair exchange.
Retirement
The yoga mat is still rolled up behind the door. It has now outlasted both the class and the sock.
